Eagles GM Howie Roseman shouldn’t be tempted into signing former All-Pro wide receiver even following latest update

Philadelphia Eagles general manager Howie Roseman has been known for some bold moves over the years, so could he actually attempt to give Odell Beckham Jr. a chance to earn a roster spot for the Birds in 2026?

This concept could be on the table for teams around the league, given recent reports, but there are some clear reasons that the Eagles front office should look elsewhere if they want to add another pass catcher to the wide receiver room for the upcoming campaign.

Eagles should pass on signing Odell Beckham Jr. even after flag football performance

According to Jordan Schultz, former Pro Bowl WR Odell Beckham Jr. has some revived interest from teams about his potential return to the NFL, following the Fanatics flag football game that he played in this past weekend.

Beckham looked smooth, healthy, and explosive, but we also must take into consideration the lack of physicality, pads/equipment, and overall difference in competition when it comes to play style. For Roseman, Beckham should not be high on his list of potential adds at the WR position this offseason.

The 2026 NFL Draft class boasts a strong wide receiver class, with exciting upside at the top and notable depth throughout. It would make more sense to address the team’s WR need, regardless of A.J. Brown’s future in Philly, through the draft.

Keep in mind that the Eagle already signed veteran WR Marquise “Hollywood” Brown during free agency as well. The juice just is not worth the squeeze when it comes to Beckham’s potential in a return to the pros.

Beckham’s time in Miami did him no favors for a return

I asked Kyle Crabbs about Beckham’s frustrating tenure in Miami during 2024. That was the last time he hit the field for an NFL team, but it was the second team in a row to have a lackluster experience with him when it comes to production and availability.

“The Odell Beckham Jr. experience didn’t go well the last time we saw it in Miami. The vibes were bad from the very beginning, where Beckham signed in free agency back in 2024 only to miss the start of the season due to recovery from an offseason procedure. By the time Beckham Jr. was ready to play, he was out of sync with the offense and failed to collect any preparatory time on task. He generally looked disinterested and displayed poor body language on possessions, even those that ended in the end zone by teammates.

Beckham Jr. failed to make it to the end of the season, he was released late in the year and despite plenty of teases from the media that he would latch on with a contender, he has not been seen since.”

Overall, getting younger at the WR position just makes more sense than adding Beckham and crossing your fingers that he can rejuvenate his NFL career in green.
