The Philadelphia Eagles are being overlooked by a lot of people, and that’s exactly how they want it
The Eagles begin their season this weekend with plenty to prove to the doubters who have already written them off. At this point, that’s exactly where they should be.
To my surprise, there are a lot of people sleeping on the Philadelphia Eagles. The national media picks are rolling in ahead of the 2026 NFL season, and a stunning number of writers and journalists are picking the Dallas Cowboys to win the NFC East. That is genuinely baffling.
I thought it was a foregone conclusion that most people would pick the Eagles to win this division. Even without A.J. Brown, Philadelphia has the best roster by far in the NFC East. It’s not particularly close. Jalen Hurts, DeVonta Smith, Saquon Barkley, Jalen Carter, Jonathan Greenard. And yet, here we are, watching pundits line up behind Dallas like they haven’t been paying attention for the last several years.

Don’t these people ever learn? The Cowboys are the kings of collapse. Yeah, they’ll be competitive. They’ll rack up eight, nine, maybe 10 wins and look the part for stretches. But you really think Dallas is going to win the division over the Eagles? It’s crazy to me. Every single year we go through this cycle where the Cowboys get hyped up, everybody buys into the star on the helmet, and then they find a way to let you down when it matters most. That’s what they do. That’s who they are.
The fact that so many national voices are picking them over Philadelphia just speaks to how much people are sleeping on the Birds right now. And you know what? I’m perfectly okay with that.
The Eagles thrive as underdogs
This is when the Eagles strike. This is when they are at their best. When this team is slept on, when they don’t go into the season carrying high expectations, that’s when they play their most dangerous football. We saw what happened last year, right? Everybody crowned Philadelphia before the season even started. The dynasty talk was everywhere. And then the whole thing fell apart.
So let the Eagles fly under the radar this time around. Let the roster come together under less scrutiny, and let this team go beyond what everybody on the outside is projecting. I’m cool with that. I think Philadelphia is going to have a tremendous season, and I think a lot of these national media people who picked Dallas are going to look foolish by December.
