The Kansas City Chiefs might not be done building up their offensive line for the future.

Despite ignoring the position group during the 2026 NFL free agency period, the Chiefs seem to be doing their homework on some of the top offensive tackle prospects in the 2026 NFL Draft. They met with several at the 2026 NFL Scouting Combine in Indianapolis, Indiana. Now, they’ll get an even closer look at others with pre-draft top-30 visits.

ESPN’s Field Yates reports that the Chiefs are set to host Alabama OT Kadyn Proctor on a top-30 visit later this week. This comes after an Alabama pro day where Proctor created some buzz for himself by displaying “exceptional” movement skills, and you could hear the pop from him hitting the bags on the opposite side of the field during his on-field work, according to Yates’ report.

This visit could fall under the “medical” evaluation category of top-30 visits. Proctor missed two games at the start of the 2024 college football season with a shoulder injury. It could also be simply a matter of getting to know one of the more polarizing 2026 NFL Draft prospects better.

The Chiefs are set to host Alabama OT Kadyn Proctor for a visit

Proctor has started 40 career games for the Alabama Crimson Tide with over 2100 snaps at the left tackle position. In 2025, Proctor allowed 19 total pressures in pass protection, including two sacks. He was flagged for two penalties throughout the season. He tends to be considered a better run-blocker at the offensive tackle position than he is a pass-blocker, which might have some newfound appeal given the team’s investment in RB Kenneth Walker III.

Despite his shortcomings, at his size, Proctor has proven to be an elite athlete. He recorded a 93.7 A to Z Sports Athletic Composite at the 2026 NFL Scouting Combine. He boasted an 86th percentile speed score and an 87th percentile burst score given his current BMI.

Proctor’s weight makes him a polarizing prospect, as he entered Alabama as a freshman weighing over 400 pounds. Some teams also think he might be better suited at guard than tackle. That said, the athletic marks he posted at the combine are comparable to those of guys like Winston Justice, Brian O’Neill, and Terron Armstead.

Some believe the Chiefs are feigning interest in offensive tackles in hopes that several come off the board before pick No. 9. They’ve already invested a first-round pick in Josh Simmons and a second-round pick in Kingsley Suamataia. They’ve also got the most expensive center-right guard combination in the National Football League. They’ve got one spot left to fill on the offensive line after releasing RT Jawaan Taylor, but let’s also remember what Kansas City went through a season ago.

Josh Simmons, Jawaan Taylor, Wanya Morris, and Ethan Driskell all missed time due to injuries. They were down to their fourth and fifth offensive tackle options by the end of the 2025 NFL season. You’re only as good as your depth in the NFL. Proctor wouldn’t only give the team a great starting five but also provide higher-caliber, higher-quality depth.

Fans probably wouldn’t like the pick at No. 9 overall, but he’d be a homerun selection later in the first round with pick No. 29.
