Giants could throw major wrench in top-5 of 2026 NFL Draft after showing strong interest in top prospect
The Giants could shock everyone when they’re on the clock at No. 5 overall by taking one prospect nobody is linking them to with a top-30 visit scheduled.
The New York Giants are under a month away from their first NFL Draft under new head coach John Harbaugh.
The Giants have seven picks to work with, including the No. 5 overall pick in the first round. They made a limited number of upgrades in free agency, but still have plenty more to make. The Giants can’t miss with their No. 5 overall pick, and they’ve been linked to top prospects to help fix the defense, but their latest top-30 visit shows they could shock everyone by taking the top WR instead.
The Giants scheduled a top-30 visit with WR Carnell Tate
The Giants will have a handful of options at No. 5 overall, and they’re one of the biggest wild card teams in the NFL draft right now. They could continue to rebuild the defense with LB Sonny Styles or Safety Caleb Downs, or a luxury pick like RB Jeremiyah Love. Their latest top-30 visit suggests that they’re open to taking WR Carnell Tate, who could be a major shake-up in the first round.
Tate is arguably the top WR in the NFL Draft, and the Giants might have the first odds to get him. He’s also planning on meeting with the Tennessee Titans, Washington Commanders, Kansas City Chiefs, and New Orleans Saints, but he will very likely be there for the Giants if they want him.
The real question is if the Giants should take Tate and pass up on top defensive talent, and there’s an honest chance they could.
The New York Giants should draft WR Carnell Tate with the No. 5 overall pick
Of course, there are major questions around WR Malik Nabers and how long it will be until he’s back at 100% after suffering a very serious knee injury during Week 4 of the 2025 season. Even if Nabers comes back the same, they still need a legit complementary WR on the other side to help support young QB Jaxson Dart as well.
The Giants lost Wan’Dale Robinson in free agency to the Titans, and Darius Slayton could be a really solid WR3 who plays in the slot and out wide since he’s under contract for two more seasons. Tate is a 6-3, 195-pound WR who is entering his prime at just 21 years old, which is where the best WRs break out.
Tate could be the next alpha WR for the Giants on the outside, and the position would be set for years to come. You can never have too much help for your young QB, and Tate knows how to win consistently with his savvy route running and his athletic ability.
