Walkoff wins in college baseball are electric. However, for the Tennessee Volunteers, they would have rather not seen any this past weekend on the road at Vanderbilt. The Commodores walked off the Vols in all three games to sweep Josh Elander’s team.

After some inconsistencies in the first month and a half of play under the team’s new skipper, plenty of social media reactions are pulling every lever in sight to sound the alarms. Christian Moore, a former Vols baseball star, isn’t in that camp, though.

Moore was a fan favorite during his time in Knoxville, and he’s not putting up with the bashing of Elander on social media. Following a post from a fan claiming that Elander has ruined the Vols baseball program, Moore quickly and fiercely dispelled that idea.

Clearly, Moore isn’t buying a somewhat slow start for the Vols in a new era post-Tony Vitello as a reason to give up on Elander. The young head coach became one of the most highly-sought after assistants in the sport before taking over for Vitello ahead of this campaign.

There’s a reason for that.

In recent years, the Vols offense has been amongst the SEC’s best on a consistent basis, and that teaching didn’t go anywhere. While Tennessee certainly has raised standards since Vitello took them to a national title, baseball is a funny game where you cannot give up on a team, let alone a first-year head coach, immediately.

The Vols may not be the top ten team in the country some projected them as ahead of the season right now, but there is a lot of baseball left to be played.

Moore isn’t buying that Elander was the wrong answer to the test for the Vols athletic department, and jumping the gun isn’t gonna fix anything on the diamond for Tennessee right now.
