NFL executive takes strong stance on what the Cleveland Browns are going to end up doing with Myles Garrett in the end
Cleveland Browns say they aren’t trading Myles Garrett, but some folks around the NFL aren’t really believing them following a change to the DPOY’s contract.
A lot of the conversation around the Cleveland Browns lately has been centered around All-Pro EDGE Myles Garrett thanks to a change to his contract.
Cleveland and Garrett mutually agreed to move the trigger date for an option bonus from late March to seven days before the season begins. This will happen in each year of Garrett’s contract, and it gives the Browns no real benefit besides keeping the trade window open. Once Cleveland pays the option bonus out each year, it’s unlikely they would move him.
The Browns are saying they won’t trade Garrett, which they have to do to hold leverage. But folks around the NFL aren’t exactly believing what Cleveland is putting down.
NFL executive believes the Browns will be trading Myles Garrett
In a recent piece from The Athletic’s Mike Sando, an NFL executive took a clear stance on what they believe will happen with Garrett.
“The report of the option bonus date moving later for Myles Garrett makes me think Cleveland is planning on trading him,” an executive stated.
If the Browns do indeed decide to trade Garrett, it has to be because they believe it would speed up their rebuild. Cleveland needs a franchise quarterback and if there’s a belief the trade haul received will help them get there, they should absolutely make the move. The Browns would be looking at getting at least two first-round picks for the two-time Defensive Player of the Year.
Already 30 years old, Garrett is in the prime of his career coming off a 23 sack season. If the Browns are going to move Garrett, who has spent all nine of his NFL seasons in Cleveland since being a No. 1 overall pick in the 2017 NFL Draft, they will want to make it happen within the next year before his value begins to decrease.
Cleveland is coming off a 5-12 season and has an important nine picks ahead in the 2026 NFL Draft. Free agency went solid for the Browns, but if they want to take another step forward they have to nail this draft. Winning football games in 2026 would quiet all of the Garrett talk, which should be their biggest goal, unless they want to move him.
