John Harbaugh sends a stern warning to one player who had no business unexpectedly missing New York Giants’ first day
The New York Giants kicked off their first day of the offseason under new head coach John Harbaugh, and one player started on the wrong foot after not showing up without any notice.
The New York Giants are officially kicking off the John Harbaugh era as they reported for the first day, but not everything went as planned.
The Giants are already dealing with the trade request by DT Dexter Lawrence, and now they have one starter missing the first day without giving the team a notice. Teams with a new head coach get a head start on their offseason, and Harbaugh already had to address some hot topics around the team, but he couldn’t explain this one.
Starting CB Paulson Adebo misses the first day of the New York Giants’ offseason
Everyone expected Lawrence to be missing with his current trade request and contract dispute, but nobody expected starter CB Paulson Adebo to be absent, including Harbaugh.
“Paulson [Adebo] wasn’t here,” Harbaugh said. “And we had Sam [Roberts] wasn’t here because he has a surgery that he can’t travel with yet, that he’s got to wait for the stitches to heal on. . .[On Adebo’s absence] There’s no excuse or unexcused. It’s voluntary. Guys come or not come according to their choosing, voluntary type time, time of year. . . [Why Adebo was absent] I’m not exactly sure, but it’s his right. It’s his reason. Whatever his reason is, I’ll be, you know, I’ll be, you know, interested to hear it. But it is what it is.”
Adebo posted a picture of himself on the beach just days ago, so it looks like he had no plans of reporting on the first day, but he should have been after a down 2025 season.
Paulson Adebo should have been at the New York Giants’ first day
In his first season with the New York Giants, Adebo saw a drop in production compared to his performance with the New Orleans Saints. There’s a possibility that the Giants could even add another premier CB in the NFL Draft, who could compete with Adebo and Greg Newsome as a starting outside CB. They tried to trade for Trent McDuffie, but came up short.
In 2025, Adebo allowed 48 catches for 533 yards and also dealt with an MCL injury in the middle of the season between Week 8 and Week 12. Even if showing up was voluntary, not being there on the first day under a completely new coaching staff doesn’t make sense.
Harbaugh went on to say it was okay, but you could tell he was upset about the decision, and he’s interested in hearing why he wasn’t there.
