Bills newcomer wastes no time igniting fans with strong message about what is coming in 2026
The Buffalo Bills got a good one when they picked up safety C.J. Gardner-Johnson in free agency. Now, the talented safety has a message after the first day of offseason workouts, and it’s one that Bills Mafia won’t soon forget.
The Buffalo Bills are looking to add a bit of nastiness to the defense heading into 2026.
They have a new defensive coordinator in Jim Leonhard, who is hoping to turn things around. Buffalo spent the early stages of the free agency period boosting the defense by bringing in players like safeties Geno Stone and C.J. Gardner-Johnson.
While football still feels forever away, teams across the league are beginning their voluntary offseason programs. Buffalo was one of those teams as several players reported to One Bills Drive on Tuesday.
Things are going to be different. There’s a new stadium, a new head coach, two new coordinators, and a slew of new players joining the organization. In particular, Gardner-Johnson may have already won over the hearts of the Bills Mafia.
C.J. Gardner-Johnson has a message for Bills Mafia ahead of the voluntary offseason program
Gardner-Johnson took to social media with a special message about what this team is looking to accomplish. Needless to say, he’s fired up more than a handful of fans with his messaging.
“Bills got better today,” Gardner-Johnson wrote with an emoji of a Buffalo.
The defense just needs to be better moving forward. Under former head coach Sean McDermott, the defense would crumble at the worst possible times, leaving fans heartbroken and ending the season for the Bills.
With the recent additions to players and staff alike, the team is hoping to turn things around in a big way, and Gardner-Johnson is all bought in on that notion. He’ll be paired alongside safety Cole Bishop for the two starting positions, and that room alone got drastically better in just one offseason.
Now it’s on them to prove it.
Talking about change is easy in April; delivering it in January is what the city actually cares about. The pieces are in place, the attitude is shifting, and the message is clear. If Gardner-Johnson and this revamped defense truly bring that edge when it matters most, the narrative around Buffalo flips overnight.
And if they don’t? It’ll be the same story Bills Mafia has seen far too many times.
