Bills make exciting pre-draft decision with quarterback Josh Allen in mind that could give them the missing piece to finally get over the hump

The Buffalo Bills are just a few pieces away from reaching the Super Bowl, or at least that’s what general manager Brandon Beane and the front office believe. The latest visit would give quarterback Josh Allen yet another weapon in the upcoming NFL Draft.

The NFL Draft is rapidly approaching, and the Buffalo Bills are doing their due diligence.

This is the time of year when college prospects are brought in for pre-draft visits or private workouts. Teams are trying to fill out their rosters with the best players available, and Buffalo has been busy.

The latest update is one that could help the offense, though it’s a rather head-scratching move if you ask me. It’s been reported that the Bills had a pre-draft visit with NC State tight end Justin Joly.

Buffalo’s roster is loaded with tight ends. Dalton Kincaid, Dawson Knox, Jackson Hawes, and Keleki Latu should all be returning. Nevertheless, you can never have too many weapons for quarterback Josh Allen, and that’s exactly what Joly is.

Buffalo looks to add another weapon for Josh Allen if they choose to draft Justin Joly in the 2026 NFL Draft

Joly had seven pre-draft visits and is coming off a 49 reception, 489 yards, and seven touchdown season. He also won the tight end MVP at the Senior Bowl earlier this year.

The talented pass catcher spent two seasons in Connecticut, where he played in 24 games with 74 receptions for 828 yards and four touchdowns, while averaging 11.2 yards per reception. He then took his talents to NC State, where he played in 25 games with 92 receptions for 1,150 yards and 11 touchdowns and averaged 12.5 yards per reception.

A to Z Sports’ Ryan Roberts discussed what Joly brings to the table as a tight end. Again, Bills Mafia should be more than a little excited if this is the route Buffalo takes. Not on a day one selection, but perhaps if they move down to add a few day two picks.

“Joly began his college career as a wide receiver for UConn, eventually morphing into an interesting movement tight end. He does his best work as a seam runner, possessing enough linear explosiveness and ball skills to win down the middle of the field. Joly has put some impressive concentration grabs on film, especially while working through contact.

“While he has effort as a blocker, that area of his game is never going to be a strength. Joly’s best attribute is as a movement based player who can block in space. There is some intriguing upside to work against linebackers and some safeties, both from an attached or detached alignment.” – Ryan Roberts

If this visit is any indication, Buffalo isn’t looking to just fill holes; they’re looking to create matchup nightmares.

Even with a crowded tight end room, the Bills clearly aren’t content standing pat when it comes to surrounding Allen with playmakers. Joly fits that mold as a versatile, high-upside weapon who could carve out a role in a creative offense.

Whether it’s a smokescreen or a legitimate target, one thing is clear: Buffalo is doing everything it can to try to make life easier on its franchise quarterback. And if that means adding another pass catcher yet to an already loaded group, it might say more about their offensive vision than it does about their current depth chart.
