Tennessee is among top schools for an elite 4-star recruit, but he’s not the Vols’ top target

The Tennessee Vols are among the top schools for an elite 2027 four-star recruit from South Carolina. The Vols, however, are also in the mix for another highly-rated player at the same position.

The Tennessee Vols are among the top schools for an elite 2027 four-star running back.

According to On3’s Hayes Fawcett, Tennessee is in the top five for four-star running back Tre Segarra.

Indiana, South Carolina, Penn State, and Stanford are also among Segarra’s top schools.

Segarra, 5-foot-10/205 pounds from Duncan, SC, is rated in 247Sports’ composite rankings as the No. 7 running back in the nation and the No. 3 player in the state of South Carolina. He’s also rated as the No. 143 overall player in the 2027 recruiting class.

While it’s clear Tennessee is interested in Segarra, who has an official visit to Knoxville scheduled in June, he’s not the Vols’ top 2027 running back target.

That, of course, is five-star running back David Gabriel Georges.

Ohio State is also in the mix for Gabriel Georges.

It’s possible the Vols could sign both running backs. Gabriel Georges, interestingly, is more than okay with sharing the load in the backfield in college.

“He’s an instant impact type player,” said VolQuest’s Austin Price last December of Gabriel Georges. “He really is. And I will say this — he’s big on having someone to help share the load. He does not want to be a guy who carries it 30 times. He wants to be a guy who carries it 18 times and makes the 18 (carries) count. So, I think he wants other backs around him. He definitely wants to be the guy — he just wants to be the guy in moderation.

“If you get into the right kind of game, sure he’s gonna carry it 30 times and he isn’t going to complain. But I think he wants help around him. He doesn’t want it to be him every game, all game. And that’s kind of been Tennessee’s thought process. Except for the Dylan Sampson year, they’ve done a nice job of balancing and sharing carries.”

The Vols currently have six players committed to their 2027 recruiting class.
