Bills waste no time ahead of the NFL Draft by bringing in one of the more exciting prospects just days before the madness begins
It’s the most wonderful time of the year: Draft preparation. With the upcoming NFL Draft just over a week away, Buffalo is doing its due diligence regarding the draft process. Another day, another top prospect brought in for a visit. This time, over Zoom.
The Buffalo Bills are doing their due diligence ahead of the upcoming NFL Draft. Buffalo has been bringing in prospect after prospect for official visits. It’s still up in the air what Buffalo might do with the No. 26 pick in the upcoming draft. General manager Brandon Beane and the front office are leaving no stone unturned with their efforts.
From “Big Citrus” to perhaps the most exciting prospect in the draft, KC Concepcion, Beane, and the front office have been getting busy.
Instead of purely focusing on those players that might be available at No. 26, Buffalo is also looking at some prospects that are projected to fall in the middle rounds. Their last reported visit was further proof.
The Buffalo Bills have had a Zoom meeting with Florida defensive lineman Tyreak Sapp. Sapp is projected to be a mid-round pick, and Ryan Talbot was first to report on the news.
Sapp to Buffalo would add another layer of nastiness to Jim Leonhard’s new defense
New defensive coordinator Jim Leonhard is switching things up on defense. There’s going to be a level of ferociousness we haven’t seen in previous years. Bringing in a player like Sapp will add to that ferociousness if Buffalo selects him.
Sapp was a four-star recruit from St. Thomas Aquinas (FL) and was ranked as the No. 26 defensive lineman in the 2021 cycle. The top-100 national prospect and strong-side defensive end redshirted his freshman year at the University of Florida before growing into a key rotational piece by 2022, and a starter there after.
During his four seasons with the Gators, Sapp played in 49 games with 125 combined tackles, 21.5 tackles for loss, 10 sacks, two passes defensed, and four forced fumbles.
Tyreak Sapp could be exactly what Buffalo needs on defense in 2026
Ryan Roberts from A to Z Sports broke down what makes Sapp so special. From a former top-100 national prospect to a projected mid-round pick, the sky is the limit for Sapp.
“Heading into the 2025 college football season, Sapp had some hype in league circles, holding several top-100 grades. The season did not go as well as Sapp had hoped, having a down year compared to the 2024 season. Despite that, there are still some interesting physical tools to work with. That includes some really impressive natural power, profiling as a pure speed to power rusher.
“Sapp has also seen some reps inside on obvious passing situations, having a squattier frame to play with nice natural leverage. With Sapp being a bit tight, he is never going to be a great outside track pass rusher. For now, he is a powerful base end with intriguing closing speed that a team might get a bargain on somewhere on Day Three (rounds 4-7). How well he is developed on the next level will determine whether he ever becomes more than an intriguing rotational player.” – Ryan Roberts
If Buffalo is serious about reshaping its defensive identity under Leonhard, these are exactly the types of swings that matter.
Sapp might not carry the first-round buzz, but he checks the boxes of a player who can outplay his draft slot and carve out a meaningful role early. With his versatility, physicality, and nose for disruption, he first sets the tone Buffalo is clearly trying to set on that side of the ball.
And if this pre-draft process has shown anything, it’s that Beane isn’t just hunting starts at No. 26. He’s building depth, attitude, and competition across the roster and across their upcoming draft selections. If Sapp ends up in Buffalo, don’t be surprised if he’s one of those mid-round finds Bills Mafia is talking about long after the draft is over.
