Tennessee Vols 5-star flip target makes big statement about his commitment to the Texas Longhorns
The Tennessee Vols are one of several college football programs that are attempting to flip a 2027 five-star wide receiver commit from the Texas Longhorns this spring and summer.
The Tennessee Vols are one of several SEC programs hoping to flip 2027 five-star wide receiver Easton Royal from the Texas Longhorns.
Royal, 5-foot-11/200 pounds from New Orleans, LA, has been committed to the Longhorns since November. He’s rated in 247Sports’ composite rankings as the No. 2 wide receiver in the nation and the No. 8 overall player in the 2027 recruiting class.
Despite his commitment to Texas, Royal has continued to visit other programs.
Royal, in fact, visited Tennessee in late March.
After that visit, On3’s Steve Wiltfong noted that there’s “confidence” on Rocky Top that Tennessee can flip Royal.
“There is confidence around Knoxville they can ultimately flip Royal who is also considering LSU and Florida,” wrote Wiltfong following Royal’s visit to Tennessee. “He’ll be back at Tennessee this summer for an official visit.”
Easton Royal comments on his commitment to Texas
While there’s confidence around Knoxville that Tennessee can flip Royal, it sounds like he’s strongly committed to the Longhorns.
“I’m very solid. It’s all been real, raw emotion since Day 1,” said Royal to On3 of his commitment to Texas. “I love it. Texas gives you that home vibe. Austin is a city, but it gives me the same feeling that Louisiana gives me being home.”
Tennessee will continue to pursue Royal, but it seems it’s going to be tough to get him to decommit from Texas.
