Ohio State LB Sonny Styles’ NFL landing spot just became much more cloudy after latest draft nugget

Sonny Styles is expected to be one of the first defenders off the board in this week’s NFL draft. A possible landing spot now may be fading for the former Ohio State star.

Ohio State Buckeyes linebacker Sonny Styles (0) warms up during the NCAA football game against the Rutgers Scarlet Knights at Ohio Stadium in Columbus on Nov. 22, 2025. Ohio State won 42-9.

Later this week is going to be special for the Ohio State Buckeyes when they’re set to have up to five players selected in the first round of the 2026 NFL Draft. The Buckeyes have four former standouts set to be drafted in the opening round on Thursday and DT Kayden McDonald has a terrific chance to be No. 5.

A year after the Buckeyes had 13 players drafted in the 2025 NFL Draft, they’re again set to have double-digit players drafted. One player who is expected to go in the top 10 is LB Sonny Styles, and there’s an interesting update around him.

The New York Giants look to be fading away from Sonny Styles

Todd McShay is one of the top draft analysts there is and he let out a recent nugget on what things look like for Styles heading into Thursday.

“I thought it was Sonny Styles at 5 for the Giants,” McShay said via The Rich Eisen Show. “Apparently it may not be.”

“That’s all I’m hearing is that the Giants don’t want Sonny Styles,” Eisen added. “That word is on the street. It is on the draft street, which means Sonny Styles is gonna be a Giant.”

Styles blew up the NFL Scouting Combine with a 4.46 40-yard dash, 43.5-inch vertical jump, and 11-foot-2 broad jump. Following an excellent last two seasons at Ohio State, the combine performance was the icing on the cake for what is a terrific draft profile for Styles. The Pickerington native and former teammate Arvell Reese are in contention to be the first linebacker off the board, though Reese may very well end up a pass rusher.

The Giants had been a team catching plenty of attention as a landing spot for Styles. Now, they may be leaning toward Arizona State WR Jordyn Tyson with the No. 5 overall pick. New York has two first-round picks after trading DT Dexter Lawrence to the Cincinnati Bengals, so it’s possible they could use No. 10 on Styles if he is still there.

Either way, I don’t see a world where Styles falls out of the top 10 of the draft. And if he does, a couple of NFL teams made a mistake and will regret picking someone else over the former Block O recipient.
