When the Minnesota Vikings traded edge rusher Jonathan Greenard, there were questions about what came back. Those seem to be answered.

One of the biggest issues for the Minnesota Vikings over the last few NFL Drafts was getting poor value back in trades. This year, the Vikings made three trades, with two of them only including NFL Draft picks.

Jonathan Greenard and No. 244No. 98 and 2027 3rdEagles

The three trades gave the Vikings more positive elements than we had over the last four years, as former general manager Kwesi Adofo-Mensah struggled massively in that area. Even so, we had two major questions stem from said trades.

Minnesota Vikings trades get important clarification

Within two of those trades, we still had information that was lacking. The two key elements that we were looking to learn were the origin of the two future picks.

The NFL transaction wire gave us the information on Monday. The trade with the New England Patriots sent a sixth-round pick in 2027 so the Vikings could move up. What we didn’t know was what selection it was. The Vikings are currently owed a sixth-round pick from the Harrison Phillips trade, but it’s unknown if the origin comes from either the New York Jets or the Kansas City Chiefs. That will still matter down the line, but the pick sent to the Patriots will be the original Vikings pick.

The other element is the trade involving Greenard. There was some speculation the third-round pick sent to the Vikings would have language attached to it. Said language would say that the third-round pick would be the lowest of their third-round picks. Reason being they are likely to receive a third-round compensatory pick for losing Jaelen Phillips.

With the language on the transaction wire, there wasn’t a condition attached to it, meaning that the pick will be the original one from the Eagles. That enhances the value of the Greenard trade a little bit. Even if the Eagles win the Super Bowl, it will still be a higher pick than a compensatory third-round pick.

It’s some important information for the Vikings, and clears up questions about the future.
