The Miami Dolphins’ draft class in 2026 achieved several objectives for the franchise.

It provided more physicality on the offensive front. It gave Jeff Hafley more multiple players to make his defense come to life. And it also provided more options for the team’s pass catching group and young quarterback Malik Willis. The first of Miami’s five pass catchers from this draft, wide receiver Caleb Douglas, was a surprise pick. The man making the selection, general manager Jon-Eric Sullivan, went to bat for their outlook on Douglas last Friday and then again on Wednesday morning on ‘The Joe Rose Show’.

“We were a big fan of Douglas. He’s unique in the sense he’s a 6’3” and change body type, long limbed. But he can drop his weight, he can get lateral, he can get in and out of cuts, he’s got really quick feet. We felt he had upside, he was not as good as he is going to be. Everybody’s approach to the draft is different, but if I can help it, I like to take guys whose best ball is in front of them…He’s a great kid, he works.”

That last bit? It’s probably not something to glaze over. Miami’s leadership group certainly seems as though they’ve hit it off with Douglas in the pre-draft process. Sullivan has said several times this offseason that Miami “won’t be for everyone” with how they go about their business. So finding players they believe they can develop who mesh with their personality surely goes a long way in trying to find the “right’ fits.

Miami seems to think they have one in Douglas, even if the masses are skeptical. And that’s the beauty of the draft. Douglas now gets to come in to Miami and can prove the Dolphins right.

One thing is for certain: there will be targets available for the taking. There are 245 targets in the passing game from last season that are no longer on the roster between Jaylen Waddle, Tyreek Hill, Julian Hill, Cedrick Wilson, Alec Ingold and others. So if Douglas is who Miami thinks he can be, there’s a chance we know it pretty quickly.

We know he’s got the backing of team leadership. Let’s see what he does with the opportunity from there.
