Miami Dolphins defensive tackle Kenneth Grant had a trying rookie season.

The entirety of the Dolphins’ defensive front struggled through the first two months of the year. But Grant, in particular, found his college playing style needed to be adjusted in order to acclimate to life in the NFL. The good news for Grant? By the final month of the season, he was playing his best football. It serves as a potential springboard for 2026 under new management and coaching. But despite evolving his college playing style, Grant will be trying to recapture some of his college mojo. He’s changing numbers back to what he wore at Michigan.

Indeed, the Miami Dolphins’ active roster page reflects that Grant is assigned number 78. After wearing 90 for his rookie season, Grant now assumes the number that was worn by veteran offensive guard James Daniels in 2025. Daniels’ tenure with Miami was short-lived, and now Grant will look to reinvent two perceptions from last season all at once.

The Daniels signing soured quickly in Miami, with the veteran playing just three snaps before being shelved for the season. Grant can shed the negative memories of the number and affirm himself as a worthy selection for where Miami drafted him, at No. 13 overall, all at once. And if it happens, it should serve as a spark plug for Miami’s defensive front for Jeff Hafley this season.
