It’s been quite an incredible recruiting heater for the Florida Gators.

Head coach Jon Sumrall already has 13 recruits, and landed three within a 24 hour period:

That day launched the Gators up to sixth in the nation and third in the SEC, according to Rivals. It’s somewhere that former head coach Billy Napier couldn’t get to, and Sumrall’s been on the job for just five months.

Background on four-star offensive tackle Layton von Brandt

  • The Appoquinimink offensive tackle is the 75th-ranked recruit in the nation and the No. 5 offensive tackle per the Rivals’ Industry Ranking
  • While listing the Gators in the top four, they currently rank fourth on the Rivals’ Recruiting Prediction Machine, with the Notre Dame Fighting Irish holding a commanding lead.
  • von Brandt would become the second-highest-ranked commit in the Florida Gators’ class.

Top target Layton von Brandt has taken notice of Florida Gators recruiting surge

One of the top targets the Gators have remaining is four-star offensive tackle Layton von Brandt. He is a top priority for the Gators and offensive line coach Phil Trautwein has been the best recruiter on the staff, and landing von Brandt would take the class to a truly elite level in the trenches.

Luckily for the Gators, von Brandt is taking notice of the success the Gators are having on the recruiting trail.

The line at the top from Swamp 247’s Tyler Harden stands out as being important: the entire class has in mind and has been recruiting. We’ve already seen multiple instances of the Gators commits working on recruiting him, including when he congratulated five-star offensive line commit Maxwell Hiller on his commitment.

The vibes surrounding the Gators are excellent right now, and recruiting experts are seeing it happen in real time. Rivals’ Sam Spiegelman believes we could see more blue chip commits and flips.

“Right now you’re seeing them reap the rewards of just John Sumrall and his coaching staff making a splash, making great first impressions. We know they had a couple of massive Junior days beginning in January, and they hit the ground running. We’re seeing a ton of guys come off the board. Guys at the top of their board come off before they take their official visit to the swamp, speaking the sources in the swamp, this is just the beginning. I think that they are going to be red hot in June and July during official visit season. And if John Sumrall and the staff win, as they expect to do in Gainesville, we’re going to be talking about Florida as a team poised for big flips and more blue chippers toward the end of this 2027 recruiting cycle, and kicking 2028 off with some fireworks.

Could von Brandt be the next one? It would be quite the coup for the Gators, and Trautwein would get a (metaphorical) statue built for his efforts.
