The future for the Florida Gators’ offensive line is incredibly bright. Head coach Jon Sumrall and offensive line coach Phil Trautwein have landed another top-10 recruit on the offensive line in four-star offensive tackle Elijah Hutcheson. He chose the Gators over the Clemson Tigers, Virginia Tech Hokies, and Vanderbilt Commodores.

Hutcheson becomes the third offensive lineman committed to the Gators in the class of 2027, joining five-star Maxwell Hiller and four-star Peyton Miller. Hutcheson ranks as the seventh offensive tackle and No. 91 overall per the Rivals’ Industry Ranking.

Florida Gators Recruiting Facts

  • Head coach Jon Sumrall entered the month of May with 10 commitments. Last season, Billy Napier had just two.
  • Hutcheson is the third commitment on the offensive line, and the first offensive tackle.
  • Offensive line coach Phil Trautwein has been a massive addition to the Florida Gators staff, recruiting better than anyone else on the staff.

It’s a major win for Trautwein, who has been an incredible recruiter. After spending the last six seasons with the Penn State Nittany Lions, Trautwein has flipped the recruiting momentum in Gainesville. Having a great offensive line is paramount to the success of the offense, and getting a five-star since Martez Ivey in 2015 is a great start.

Hutcheson is a really impressive athlete. They spent a lot of time moving him in the run and screen game. He aims really well and gets his hands on defenders with ease. You can see the length pop on film, keeping defensive linemen at bay and preventing them from getting into his chest. You’d like to see a little more dominant finishing on film, but he does a great job sealing running lanes for the backs.

There are some major question marks for the Gators on the offensive line. They added a couple of Penn State transfers in tackle Eagan Boyer and guard T.J. Shanahan Jr., along with some interesting players coming in, including Tyler Chukuyem, Javarii Luckas, and Chancellor Campbell. There will likely be opportunities for the Gators early on.

Hutcheson becomes the 11th commitment in the class of 2027 for the Gators.
