Offensive line has been a massive focus for the Florida Gators during the 2027 recruiting class.

Head coach Jon Sumrall made sure that his coaching staff was really good when it comes to recruiting, and the hiring of offensive line coach Phil Trautwein was the best of them all. He’s proven in the last five months to be the best hire of the staff. He’s already landed five-star Maxwell Hiller and four-star Peyton Miller, both ranking in the top-10 of interior linemen. If things go well, the Gators will have their first top-10 offensive tackle.

Top Florida Gators offensive tackle target set to announce commitment

The offensive line recruiting class is set to be strong in Gainesville, and they are going to find out if four-star Elijah Hutcheson will pick the Gators. He is announcing his decision on Tuesday, May 5th at 4:00 P.M. ET between the Gators, Vanderbilt Commodores, Clemson Tigers, and Virginia Tech Hokies.

Hutcheson is the sixth-ranked offensive tackle and No. 77 overall recruit in the nation. While the Gators have multiple offensive linemen committed, none of them are at offensive tackle. They do have a chance at Layton von Brandt, but it’s an uphill battle with the Notre Dame Fighting Irish.

Trautwein has made Hutcheson a target over the last few months, including getting him down to Gainesville on April 2nd. There doesn’t appear to be an official visit mapped out as of yet, but that hasn’t stopped Corey Bender and Blake Alderman from Gators Online from putting in a prediction to land him.

Those predictions raised the likelihood of the Gators landing Hutcheson to 84.9% on the Rivals’ Recruiting Prediction Machine. It’s not a guarantee that he will end up in Gainesville, but it’s becoming more likely that it will happen. If it does, that would be three top-10 commitments at their positions on the offensive line, and you build great teams in the trenches.
