Despite the perceived downfall of the Alabama Crimson Tide under Kalen DeBoer, the Crimson Tide has remained dominant in arguably the most important part of college football: recruiting.

Alabama’s 2025 class ranked 4th, and the 2026 class ranked 6th in the nation. For 2027, it’s been slow for the Crimson Tide. Alabama has just six hard commits, but the last two, including one from Monday, are huge news for Alabama.

Alabama secures commitment from 2027 LB Kenneth Simon II

The 6-2, 210-pound linebacker out of Brentwood Academy in Brentwood, Tennessee chose the Crimson Tide over Georgia, Ole Miss, and his home state, Tennessee Vols. Simon is a consensus 4-star recruit and ranked among the top-10 in the country at his position.

He joins quarterback Trent Seaborn and Elijah Haven as the marquee names in a class that Alabama hopes to only grow bigger and better. Once nicknamed LB University, the days of the stacked backers who weighed 240 pounds under Nick Saban may be over, but recent NFL Drafts have shown that Alabama can still develop the position at a high clip.

Jihaad Campbell was a first-round pick in 2025, and both Alabama starting inside backers from 2026, Justin Jefferson and Deontae Lawson have found homes in the NFL. With QB Reese making a ton of noise and Caleb Woodson labeled as one of the most anticipated transfers from the portal, that is a trend that may continue in 2027.

Simon believes he has next.
