The Minnesota Vikings have never been shy about making moves when it comes to their pool of undrafted free agents. Every year, they add at least one or two from rookie minicamp or others shortly thereafter. In 2024, the Vikings added defensive tackle Jalen Redmond and defensive tackle Elijah Williams in 2025, both of whom made the team.

This year, the Vikings have already moved on from linebacker Scooby Williams due to him failing a physical. On Thursday, they made another roster move, releasing outside linebacker Jordan Botelho and signing wide receiver Terrill Davis.

The Vikings moving on from an edge rusher is curious. They have a serious need at the position. Although Botelho wasn’t going to be a guy who saw the field for the Vikings, it raises another question about the future of the position. Could they be moving on from him with the idea they will be bringing in a veteran to compete for EDGE3? That’s certainly a possibility.

Davis feels like a smart upside play. He’s got adequate size at 6-0 and 195 pounds, and played last season at Oklahoma State. Where the intrigue lies is that Smith played his first four seasons at DII Central Oklahoma.

He didn’t play much for the Cowboys in 2025, catching just 29 passes for 373 yards. However, his final season of DII ball was explosive in 2024, hauling in 109 receptions for 1,609 yards and 15 touchdowns. That’s really impressive production for a player at any level. It’s worth seeing if he has something in a wide receiver room with 2-3 spots theoretically up for grabs.

Right now, the Vikings have 90 players on the roster, including punter Brett Thorson, who qualifies for the International Pathway Player exemption. That leaves one roster spot currently open for the Vikings.
