The Miami Dolphins regime under Jeff Hafley has been preaching one thing since January.

Competition, competition, competition! The roster is going to facilitate a ton of it. The schedule is going to force this team to play their tail end off in 2026 — it’s a tough draw. And there aren’t too many players with the kind of long-term security that would create complacency, either. But now, with that aforementioned schedule now released, we’ve got a nugget about one extra layer of competition for Jeff Hafley’s Miami Dolphins.

Practice against the Washington Commanders.

The Miami Dolphins are reportedly set to hold a joint practice with the Washington Commanders this summer

NFL Network’s Cam Wolfe has reported that Miami and Washington will hold one joint practice ahead of Miami’s preseason opener against the Commanders. The only preseason road trip this Dolphins team will face this summer comes in the opener. And now we know that Miami will take a few extra days to be on the road together while linking up with Dan Quinn and company. Miami’s preseason contest against Washington is scheduled for August 14th.

If you remember, last year’s practices with teams like Detroit and Chicago were tabbed as disasters for the Dolphins. Detroit reportedly dominated the Dolphins at every turn. And the Chicago Bears had tempers flaring on Miami’s sideline amid a very physical showing in practice.

Who knows how Miami will come into a joint setting and perform. But one thing that can be certain is that this group won’t be taking anything for granted. This Dolphins team isn’t being given much of a chance from the outside world. It leaves plenty of room for a chip on one’s shoulder. Miami will have plenty of reasons to have theirs. And now they’ve got another outlet to show it.
