Minnesota Vikings continue their general manager search by narrowing the candidate with one frustrating element
The general manager search for the Minnesota Vikings takes a necessary step on Wednesday with in-person interviews.
The Minnesota Vikings are the only team in the National Football League right now without a general manager. It’s been a massive aspect of the Vikings’ offseason, especially with how controversial the moves they made were in some circles.
With the NFL Draft in the rearview mirror, Vikings owners Mark and Zygi Wilf have been upping the ante with their general manager search. On Wednesday, they finally took the next step in securing the future of the Vikings.
Minnesota Vikings General Manager Search
- Minnesota Vikings general manager search narrowed from 10 candidates to five.
- The list is led by interim general manager Rob Brzezinski, who has been with the organization since 1999.
- Both Reed Burckhardt and Terrance Gray are long-time scouts for the Vikings, having been hired away from the organization.
Minnesota Vikings narrow the GM candidate field to 5
The candidate pool for the Vikings have been cut in half, with five receiving in-person second interviews after the first round was over zoom.
It shouldn’t be much of a surprise to see any of these five names on the list. Here’s something to know about every canadidate.
Vikings interim GM Rob Brzezinski
Brzezinski has been in the Vikings’ front office since 1999, and the organization has been big on continuity. Despite being the salary cap guy during his tenure, the Vikings trusted him enough to be the interim general manager.
Denver Broncos asst. general manager Reed Burckhardt
Burckhardt has been with the Broncos since 2022, when George Paton hired him, and later promoted him to assistant general manager. He spent 13 seasons with the Vikings as a scout, making him a de facto internal candidate.
Buffalo Bills asst. general manager Terrance Gray
Like Burckhardt, Gray spent 14 years with the Vikings as a scout before joining Brandon Beane in Buffalo in 2017. The Bills have done a great job in building that roster, especially in the middle rounds. That is something the Vikings need to get better at.
Los Angeles Rams asst. general manager John McKay
McKay spent time with Kevin O’Connell in Los Angeles when he was the offensive coordinator. Continuity has been a big factor with the success of a head coach and general manager duo, and McKay’s success in Los Angeles is mainly on the pro personnel side, but that’s an important element.
Seattle Seahawks asst. general manager Nolan Teasley
Simply put, the Seahawks just won the Super Bowl, and Teasley has been a huge asset in building up the roster to compete for a title. It’s noteworthy here too that Teasley is the only candidate without ties to the organization.
