The future between the Miami Dolphins and running back De’Von Achane is locked in.

It didn’t have to be, at least beyond the 2026 season. But Achane and his camp agreed to terms on a four-year extension with the Dolphins earlier this month. So now, Achane has gone from ‘young star’ to ‘franchise building block’. One of the challenges facing Achane in 2026 is helping to vault this Dolphins team past the modest expectations set on the outside. The good news? He’s got the right mindset. During a recent interview with his former teammate and former Miami Dolphin Terron Armstead on Armstead’s ‘The Set’, Achane made on thing very clear: his expectations for this season transcend ‘rebuilding’.

“Everybody keep (talking) about this rebuild. Hey, I ain’t got time for that! Like I ain’t got time for it…I’m not trying to hear no ‘we rebuild for two years’. I ain’t trying to do it…I want to win division, we got to win the playoff game. (I’m not) even going to say we going be trying to win the championship but we just got to get those things first. Like we haven’t did (any) of those things since I’ve been here. We (were) close but it ain’t happened, so we going to start winning the division, win a playoff game…you know, just see where we go from there.”

On expectations in 2026

Yeah, man. I’m all about this.

The fate of the 2026 Miami Dolphins will not ultimately be in the hands of just De’Von Achane. And of course you’d expect a player who just signed a long-term extension to express his desire to make the here and now count. Regardless, you have to respect a young player who is willing to further the message of the team in what is an ascending leadership role.

It was quite fun to watch Armstead and Achane reminisce about ‘rookie year’ Achane versus now with the role he’s filling for the franchise. Achane is still just scratching the surface, even in a position where running backs often get worn out due to heavy workloads. Given the contract and the role within the offense, it’s fair to consider Achane a central piece of the locker room. So him not having any time for the ‘rebuild’ talk is good with me.
