There aren’t many teams recruiting better than the Oklahoma Sooners at cornerbacks and other secondary positions. And that statement could be even truer very soon. Oklahoma is projected to land both Bode Sparrow, a four-star safety, and Gabriel Osborne, a four-star cornerback.

Right now, 2026 CB LeBron Bauer is doing some of his own recruiting by hanging out with Osborne and Brandon Sherrard during their visits to OU.

Osborne, ranked as the No. 11 cornerback in the 2027 recruiting class and third overall in the state, has been a priority for the Sooners. A star on both the football field and basketball court at Mustang High School, Osborne has shown impressive athleticism as a dual-sport talent. Rivals now predicts that he will commit to Oklahoma.

Nationally, Osborne sits at No. 29 overall, ranks third in Oklahoma, and is fifth among cornerbacks. With Oklahoma already holding commitments from the state’s top two prospects and favored to land Osborne, its roots in the state are growing stronger than they once were. OU’s 2027 recruiting class continues to gain steam.

As for Sherrard, he’s a four-star cornerback the Sooners aren’t pushing as hard for, but he may be just as talented as Osborne. He’s the No. 20 player in Texas and the No. 20 cornerback in the country. Sherrard is being heavily pursued by the Texas Longhorns, Texas A&M, LSU, and Oklahoma, with the Longhorns having the least chance of landing him.

OU is a promising place for CB recruits after the 2025 season

Just last season, Oklahoma’s starting corners were both former three-stars: sophomore Eli Bowen and freshman Courtland Guillory. Oklahoma excels at developing players, especially those undervalued in the recruiting world.

They got some of those same guys to play a ton in 2025. So it’s reasonable to expect that some freshmen in the 2026 recruiting class could see the field next season. And, at this point, that could be used as a selling point to cornerback and secondary recruits. We could see guys in similar positions, like LeBron Bauer, get some playing time when they get on campus.
