The Oklahoma Sooners have had a few players in their 2027 recruiting class committed for some time now. That’s one of the ways they got the No. 1 class early and kept the momentum going to hold that lead.

One of the earlier guys to commit was Southern California native defensive tackle Elija Harmon. He’s one of three DTs in the class with Deven Robertson and Sione Felila also committed. However, Harmon, like many high school players, was still going through the process. He was still listening to what other schools could give him, and so on. This is very common in today’s era.

But on Sunday, he officially shut down his recruitment. That means no more visits anywhere else. No more talking to other recruiters, schools, or coaches. None of that stuff. He is all in on Oklahoma. Harmon is a great defensive tackle who could turn out to be a player similar to Gracen Halton. So, you know that had to make Venables happy.

Harmon always had a warm welcome, dating back to the beginning of his recruitment

The Sooners win with recruiting. They win with relationships, just like the old days, not money. Do they use money? Sure. But they create relationships with these players. They did that very early in the process with Harmon.

“Their [Brent Venables and Jim Nagy] message to me was whenever I’m ready to commit, when I’m ready to come there, the door is always open,” Harmon said long ago. “Just really that I’m a top priority in this class. They were telling me a little bit about the school, and then I talked to Coach Bates more about how they’d use me on the d-line. They’re going to use me to my strengths. My strength is my athleticism, so they’d play me to my strengths, which I liked.”

The four-star recruit and top-25 defensive tackle in the class is ALL IN, as they say.
