Notre Dame football has recruited the quarterback position at an extremely high level under head coach Marcus Freeman. That includes the Fighting Irish landing Kenny Minchey, CJ Carr, Blake Hebert, Noah Grubbs, Teddy Jarrard, and Champ Monds during the last five recruiting classes. All eyes are now on the 2028 group.

One of the three early names to know is Plantation (Fla.) American Heritage quarterback Neimann Lawrence, and he has already visited South Bend twice in the past. Freeman and Co. have also offered Kingston Preyear and Lukas Prock, all three ranked inside the top-100 overall players in the 2028 recruiting class. If the Fighting Irish landed any of those three, they would be in a great spot.

When it comes to Lawrence, it appears we will get a better handle on his future soon. The Florida native announced that he will be making his commitment on June 25. Lawrence will be selecting between the Fighting Irish, Texas, Michigan, Texas A&M, and Miami.

As of today, this feels like a Notre Dame-Texas battle.

Timing usually matters in recruiting, and with Lawrence having just visited the Longhorns this past weekend, it has some believing that Texas could be in the driver’s seat. I do, however, expect Notre Dame to battle until the very end. From my understanding, a decision has not been fully made yet, but I do believe it comes down to those two schools.

Neimann Lawrence’s recruiting background

Lawrence is considered a four-star, top-100 player by each of the major recruiting platforms. On the 247 Sports Composite ranking, Lawrence is currently rated as a four-star, the No. 53 overall player, the No. 5 quarterback, and the No. 7 player from the state of Florida for the 2028 recruiting class. Each site views him as a potentially elite signal caller when all is said and done.

As legit as Lawrence’s recruiting rankings are, his offer list might be even better. Some of the top programs that have offered him so far include the Fighting Irish, Georgia, Ohio State, Alabama, Texas, Tennessee, Michigan, Oregon, Florida, Texas A&M, Miami, Nebraska, Auburn, Florida State, South Carolina, TCU, Arkansas, SMU, Illinois, Virginia Tech, Colorado, Pitt, Arizona State, UCF, West Virginia, Syracuse, and Purdue, among others.

The 6-0.5, 202-pound put together a tremendous sophomore season while with Miami (Fla.) Northwestern in 2025. In ten games, Lawrence managed to throw for 1,971 yards and 32 touchdowns, with just one interception. The Florida native also rushed for 104 yards and a touchdown on just nine carries, an average of 11.6 yards per carry.

Lawrence began his career with Miami (Fla.) Ransom Everglades as a freshman in 2024, throwing for 2,777 yards and 31 touchdowns, while also rushing for four more scores on the ground. He is set to star for American Heritage next season.
