ESPN says a Tennessee Vols fan favorite is a top candidate to be part of an NFL trade before the end of the year
ESPN believes that a Tennessee Volunteers legend who was a fan favorite during his time on Rocky Top is a top candidate to be part of an NFL trade before the deadline later this year.
ESPN thinks a former Tennessee Vols standout could be traded before the end of the year.
NFL insider Dan Graziano named former Vols running back Alvin Kamara as one of his top candidates to be traded before the deadline in November.
Kamara, who played at Tennessee from 2015 to 2016, is entering his 10th season with the New Orleans Saints.
There’s uncertainty, though, surrounding his status with the Saints.
“The Saints’ beloved veteran turns 31 in July and posted career lows in touches (164) and scrimmage yards (657) in 2025,” wrote Graziano. “New Orleans doled out big money to Travis Etienne Jr. in free agency and has a crowded RB room that also includes Kendre Miller, Audric Estime and Ty Chandler. Kamara has one year left on his contract, which has been amended so many times it’s difficult to truly assess the size of the dead money burden New Orleans will take on whenever he’s gone.
“It’s hard to see a team offering too much for Kamara at this point in his career. But if he lands in the right kind of backfield and the right kind of role, he could have a chance to go out with a bang. Maybe a place such as Cincinnati or Green Bay has a way to use him to help the offense.”
Alvin Kamara unexpectedly showed up for Saints OTAs this week
Kamara, who turns 31 in July, unexpectedly showed up for Saints OTAs this week amid his uncertain future in New Orleans.
The Saints have been non-committal on Kamara’s role with the team in 2026.
Kamara, however, is eager to play this season for the Saints.
“On my side, I feel no pressure,” said Kamara. “There’s no beef or bad blood, I don’t think. I’m just doing what I do every year, working. Whatever decisions have got to be made, they’ll be made.”
“We’re just trying to see how he’s going to fit on our roster,” said Saints general manager Mickey Loomis a few weeks ago when asked about Kamara. “Obviously there’s a resource management element to it. We’ll get to that over the next week or two.”
It’s been a few weeks and there’s still no clarity on Kamara’s situation. He’s previously indicated he doesn’t want to play for a team other than New Orleans, so a trade could be tricky to pull off.
