Former Browns RG Wyatt Teller made a strong admission about the ending of his time in Cleveland before leaving in free agency

Wyatt Teller left the Cleveland Browns in free agency after a rocking ending to his tenure in Northeast Ohio. His latest comments shouldn’t come off as a surprise for that reason.

The Cleveland Browns had a ton of change happen this offseason, especially along the offensive line. Cleveland is set to have five new starters up front in 2026.

One player who left Cleveland was RG Wyatt Teller, who signed a free-agent deal with the Houston Texans. Teller was a great trade acquisition for a Day 3 draft pick in 2019 and was able to become a three-time Pro Bowler with the Browns.

Teller’s time in Cleveland ended weirdly, with him supposedly injured at some point, while the Browns opted to play Teven Jenkins late in the year even though the new Texan was healthy again.

Wyatt Teller opens up about his ending with the Cleveland Browns

“I feel like in all honesty, [I] got a little complacent,” Teller said recently. “You know you get used to a city, you get used to your routine, everything like that. But at the same time, it kind of re-fired me up. [At the] end of the year last year, I’m not going to throw away six years that they treated me for six months of indifference or whatever.”

I still have no ill will for anybody there but it just felt like they kind of blamed it on the offensive line. Which, don’t get me wrong did we play to our standard? We were a top-five offensive line for so long, and then to kind of drop off. But there are so many issues [with the offense then], you can’t point to one thing.”

Teller started nine of the 15 games he played in for the Browns during 2019 and he was a full-time starter from there. The former Brown was a Pro Bowler in 2021, 2022, and 2023 as one of the best run blockers in the NFL. Teller’s play unquestionably slowed down the last couple of years and he’s 31 years old now — the Browns were ready to go younger upfront.

It’ll be either Elgton Jenkins or Teven Jenkins starting for Cleveland at right guard. The answer will depend on whether or not Cleveland can rely on Parker Brailsford or Luke Wypler at center so that Elgton can be the right guard. The Browns brought in Zion Johnson to hold down the other guard spot.

It’s cool to see Teller has no bad blood with the Browns despite a rocky end of his time in Northeast Ohio when it appeared he was clearly benched for the future of the team. The Browns knew they were moving on and needed to look at a potential succession plan.

Teller will now get a chance to compete for the playoffs in Houston, so it should work out for both sides.
