While everyone was paying attention to David Gabriel Georges, there was a very positive turn of events over the weekend for Tennessee
All eyes were on 2027 five-star running back David Gabriel Georges’ official visit to Tennessee this weekend. But while DGG was on Rocky Top, there was a very positive development for the Vols just a few hundred miles south.
All eyes were on 2027 five-star running back David Gabriel Georges’ official visit to Tennessee this weekend.
But while everyone in Knoxville (and Columbus) was paying attention to the images and videos of Gabriel Georges’ visit, there was a turn of events in Athens that was a very positive development for the Vols.
Georgia is no longer a threat to steal 2027 three-star quarterback Derrick Baker from Tennessee
It’s no secret that Tennessee is going to have a tough time hanging on to 2027 three-star quarterback Derrick Baker, who committed to the Vols in February.
Baker, 6-foot-1/226 pounds from Alpharetta, GA, is expected to be a top flip target for multiple programs this fall as he returns to action after missing most of this junior season of high school.
“Everybody’s going to keep swinging at that kid,” said VolQuest’s Austin Price this week on WNML’s Josh and Swain when asked about Baker. “That thing, to me, will probably get dicey at some point. Because he’s going to play this fall. He didn’t play a lot, basically any, last year. And if he puts together really good tape, you’re going to see a quarterback-hungry team or two come calling and trying to pry him away. Especially if Faizon or George is as good as advertised. Because they are both going to be in basically in year one (as a starter).”
Georgia, which offered Baker in May, has been viewed as one of the top threats to swipe Baker from the Volunteers.
The Bulldogs, though, landed a commitment from 2027 four-star quarterback Colton Nussmeier on Friday, which essentially takes Georgia out of the mix for Baker.
Tennessee will likely still have to fend off other suitors this fall, but removing Georgia from the equation — the homestate school for Baker — certainly eliminates a big threat.
