Ohio State football clearly has the attention of a former NFL All-Pro’s son who is an elite recruit
Ohio State football has the attention of a former NFL great’s son who just happens to be an elite recruit in the 2028 class. The Buckeyes can match just what he says he’s looking for.
The Ohio State Buckeyes hosted a key camp day on Thursday with a bunch of recruits in Columbus working out.
Ohio State had several key 2028 recruits specifically, including the son of former NFL All-Pro S Eric Weddle. The former NFL great’s son plays the same position his father did, and the Buckeyes are very interested in him early on in his recruitment.
Ohio State has just what 2028 S Gaige Weddle is looking for as a college football player
Weddle is a 6-foot-2, 175-pound safety from Rancho Bernardo (CA) that the Buckeyes offered a scholarship to last October. Weddle was joined by his father at Ohio State on Thursday and he was once again impressed with what the Buckeyes have to offer.
“I mean it’s the most winningest program in college football, right? They know the right way to do it and they have success,” Weddle said via Lettermen Row.
Weddle plays safety on defense and is a quarterback on offense for his high school team. Ohio State along with Texas and Oklahoma are the early players for the Weddle. Utah and BYU have some interest from the Weddle family. Other offers include Georgia, Texas A&M, Miami, amongst others.
Weddle is the No. 3 safety and No. 46 player in the country, according to Rivals industry rankings. When it comes to what Weddle is looking for at the next level, the Buckeyes check off the majority of the boxes. It’s going to be up to safeties coach Matt Guerrieri to bring this one home in the end though.
“Some big things is just development, Weddle said via Lettermen Row. “Development and relationships. I feel like I need to have a close relationship with my strength coach and my position coach. These are the people I’ll spend the most time with. And then just development, right? I need to see the guys that will come before me and the guys that are there and how they’re doing. The process and what they’re putting out.”
Ohio State certainly has the proven track record of getting guys to the NFL, better than any other college program as of late. A strong NFL legacy player to watch as the Buckeyes turn up their attention on him the closer we get to the 2028 cycle.
