Ohio State football is losing an elite recruit to the Texas Longhorns for money reasons it sounds like
June hasn’t been a great month for the Ohio State Buckeyes on the recruiting trail. The latest update has the Buckeyes losing a major target to Texas for an expected reason.
The Ohio State Buckeyes have had a couple of weekends of key visits happening, though they’ve limited their number of official visitors compared to recent years.
Ohio State has 13 commitments and they’re a bit behind a lot of schools with 17+ commitments in this class. The good news is there’s work left to do for the Buckeyes, and they’ll eventually add some of their targets.
The Buckeyes have had their eyes on an elite defensive lineman from California, 320-pound Kasi Currie, but they’re not expected to land him despite being one of their top targets.
Ohio State is trending toward losing an elite recruit to Texas because of money
The Buckeyes are after the Sierra Canyon (CA) duo of defensive linemen Marcus Fakatou and Currie. While Ohio State stands in a strong spot, Currie is slipping away from them. Following Currie’s official visit to Texas last weekend, the four-star defensive tackle has been predicted to choose the Longhorns.
Currie will announce his commitment at 4 ET on Thursday when he’s expected to pick the Longhorns.
According to Lettermen Row’s Jeremy Birmingham, Currie and the Buckeyes won’t be a match due to money reasons.
“That was the message on Tuesday morning from a number of Ohio State sources — and, yes, it centers squarely on money,” Birmingham wrote. “Currie is one of the country’s elite defensive tackle prospects and is commanding multiple millions of dollars. LR believes a commitment to Texas is coming in the near future. He is not expected to make his previously scheduled June 19 official visit to Ohio State.”
With the official visit next week expected to be canceled, Ohio State is all but out on Currie. According to 247 Sports Composite, Currie is the No. 6 defensive lineman and No. 60 overall player in the class of 2027. Missing out on Currie makes it that much more important the Buckeyes close the deal with Fakatou.
The Buckeyes are at a good spot along the defensive line this class with five-star DJ Jacobs and four-star Wyatt Smith committed to play in Columbus. There’s work to be done along the interior, and the development with Currie is an unfortunate one.
