Josh Elander and the Tennessee Vols are ‘trending’ to receive some big baseball news this week
Josh Elander and the Tennessee Volunteers have been hard at work this offseason as they look to rebuild the roster for the 2027 college baseball season.
Josh Elander and the Tennessee Vols have had a solid offseason in the transfer portal, but they’re not done yet.
Tennessee still has spots to fill, and one of those spots could soon be filled by Louisville transfer RHP Parker Detmers.
On3’s Pete Nakos reported that Tennessee is “trending” to land Detmers.
“Sources tell On3 that Tennessee is trending to land a commitment from Detmers, who entered the portal with a do-not-contact tag,” wrote Nakos.
Detmers missed the 2026 season with an injury, but he recorded a 3.94 ERA in 2025.
The Illinois native was rated by Prep Baseball Reports as the No. 64 overall player coming out of high school in 2023.
Tennessee’s had a good offseason in the transfer portal due in large part to how well prepared the staff was at the end of the season.
“My assessment of Tennessee baseball is that Josh Elander and his staff were prepared,” said VolQuest’s Brent Hubbs earlier this month. “They were ready to go when the portal opened. They did a quick ‘get through your roster’ on who’s staying, who’s leaving, who you want to stay, and who’s going to potentially price themselves out of staying.
“I thought they did a really good job as soon as the season was over of diving into that part of it. And then they really get rolling with the portal. They feel organized right now in what they’re doing and what they’re looking at. I think Josh Elander has been very decisive in what he has done since the season ended. Whether it was making a change, roster retention versus roster departures, and then obviously the portal work they’ve got done. So I like the assertiveness that they have shown right out of the gate here. I think they’ve been well organized and prepared. And I think it’s showing up early for Tennessee.”
Update:
Nakos reported on Wednesday afternoon that Tennessee has signed Detmers.
