Texas has a problem: Lane Kiffin is circling like a shark, and Arch Manning is now involved
The Texas Longhorns have a Lane Kiffin problem, and now quarterback Arch Manning is involved.
The Texas Longhorns have a Lane Kiffin problem.
And it’s real.
Kiffin and the LSU Tigers are viewed as the biggest threat to flip 2027 five-star wide receiver Easton Royal from the Longhorns.
Royal has been committed to Texas since November, but the Tigers are threatening to flip the New Orleans native.
“They made a very big, significant jump,” said Royal to Rivals after a recent official visit to LSU. “They’re in a very good spot. They’re very close to Texas now after this weekend.”
“They continue to show me everything I need is here,” added Royal. “I can go be great anywhere else, but why not do the same thing at home … in front of your hometown and close to the people you love. They’re showing me the whole state is behind me.”
Arch Manning is trying to help keep Easton Royal committed
Texas quarterback Arch Manning is doing his part to keep Royal committed to the Longhorns.
Manning spoke with reporters at the Manning Passing Academy this week and noted that he had lunch with Royal recently.
“I had lunch with him last week in Austin,” said Manning. “He’s a really good kid. Obviously, I just told him that recruiting can be a lot, but I can be a resource for you and help you out any way I can. I think he’s a really good player, and he’s a really good guy, so I’m excited for his senior year, and what he does next.”
I guess we’re going to find out just how good of a recruiter Arch is (and whether he can out recruit Kiffin and the Tigers).
This battle, though, is going to come down to the wire — regardless of what happens this summer, nothing will be fully settled with Royal until he signs in December.
