Predicting Ohio State football’s next couple of commitments following the addition of five-star DL Marcus Fakatou
The Ohio State Buckeyes have picked up a big commitment by the way of five-star DL Marcus Fakatou. Good news for Buckeye Nation is that more commitments look to be coming very soon.
The Ohio State Buckeyes started the week with a huge recruiting win by landing five-star DL Marcus Fakatou over Texas and Georgia. Ohio State is up to 18 commitments in the class of 2027, and they’ve really been heating up as of late.
Ohio State is expected to bring in a smaller high school recruiting class this year than they did a cycle ago when 27 freshmen entered the program. The rest of the summer will all but wrap up what Ohio State’s recruiting class will look like, and there are a couple of commitments to watch in the coming weeks.
DL Karlos May
May confirmed to A to Z Sports that he will be announcing his commitment on July 18. The Alabama defensive lineman is also considering Georgia and Auburn, but the Buckeyes stand in a great spot following his June 19 official visit to Columbus. The 6-foot-3, 305-pound defensive lineman would be a true interior addition for the Buckeyes, and one they need after missing out on Kasi Currie to Texas.
Ohio State defensive line coach Larry Johnson has built a strong relationship here and the Buckeyes look to be the team to beat. According to 247 Sports Composite, May is the No. 14 defensive lineman and No. 130 player nationally.
RB David Gabriel Georges
Ohio State’s top target on the board is none other than the five-star Canadian running back currently playing high school ball in Tennessee. The Buckeyes have had eyes on Gabriel Georges for a couple of years now and always knew they would go all in on him in the class of 2027. The relationship with Carlos Locklyn is a driver in this recruitment and the biggest reason why I ultimately think he will choose the Buckeyes.
Tennessee is Ohio State’s biggest challenger in this one and the Volunteers feel great about their chances of landing him. It’s a two-team race with Ole Miss a distant third. Ohio State won’t have the highest financial offer, but they’ll be competitive on that front. The Buckeyes offer a much better football program and the decision shouldn’t be hard in that regard.
Ohio State can still have a good class without DGG, but there’s no doubt he would be a tough miss that they’d have to scramble to make up for. July 22 is the commitment day and Ohio State should be the landing spot.
