Despite the Minnesota Vikings reportedly having a Jordan Addison extension in the budget, it’s still uncertain if and when that will happen.

The future of multiple Minnesota Vikings players are up in the air. New general manager Nolan Teasley will prioritize different players than Kwesi Adofo-Mensah and Rob Brezezinski did, and that creates other potential questions and moves.

One of those players who could be extended or moved on from is wide receiver Jordan Addison. We know that the Vikings reportedly have money set aside for an Addison extension, but it’s rarely that simple.

I spoke to Luke Braun, who hosts Locked On Vikings, and he brought up an interesting aspect of the discussion to me after doing an episode on paying him.

“How many teams would Addison be the WR1 on?”

Jordan Addison’s value is more than being a WR2

This is a really interesting discussion point for Addison. His value with the Vikings is strong, but how many teams would he be the top guy if he was traded today? With some teams, it’s a real debate.

Looking at every team in the NFL, it’s an interesting discussion point. However, there will be debate at Addison’s talent level compared to other teams in the league. Looking at the entire league, Addison would for sure be the top wide receiver in multiple rooms.

  • Buffalo Bills: D.J. Moore
  • Miami Dolphins: Jalen Tolbert
  • Cleveland Browns: Jerry Jeudy
  • Tennessee TItans: Calvin Ridley
  • Kansas City Chiefs: Rashee Rice
  • Las Vegas Raiders: Jalen Nailor
  • Chicago Bears: Rome Odunze
  • Green Bay Packers: Christian Watson
  • Arizona Cardinals: Marvin Harrison Jr.

That’s about 1/3rd of the league where he would definitely be the top wide receiver. Outside of those nine teams, I think there are eight more where it’s a debate.

  • Jacksonville Jaguars: Brian Thomas Jr.
  • Tampa Bay Buccaneers: Chris Godwin
  • San Francisco 49ers: Mike Evans
  • Los Angeles Chargers: Ladd McConkey
  • New Orleans Saints: Chris Olave
  • Carolina Panthers: Tetairoa McMillan
  • Indianapolis Colts: Alec Pierce
  • Baltimore Ravens: Zay Flowers

That in itself makes the decision to potentially trade him even more difficult. Why would you want to trade a second WR1 on your team? It’s incredibly valuable to have two of them on the roster. However, teams looking for that alpha on the outside could strike gold in Addison.

Back in April, I broke down a potential contract extension and hree-years, $82.5 million, $34 million fully guaranteed, with a structure that is common with deals negotiated by Rob Brzezinski.

What does Teasley think about Addison? Does he also see him as a WR1? Would he be able to get enough in a trade to make it worthwhile to move him and find his replacement next offseason? Another team desperate for that No. 1 on the outside could tempt the Vikings with a big package.

It’s a very interesting decision that the Vikings have in front of them, and how Teasley views the talent that is Addison. The way I see it is Minnesota has two WR1s on their roster.
