‘They may be in danger of losing him more than they thought they were going to be a month ago’ – David Gabriel Georges has one program worried
2027 five-star running back David Gabriel Georges is set to choose between the Tennessee Volunteers and the Ohio State Buckeyes on July 22.
2027 five-star running back David Gabriel Georges has reportedly already decided between the Tennessee Vols and the Ohio State Buckeyes.
But he’s not revealing that decision until July 22.
And the belief is that he hasn’t shared his decision with either Tennessee or Ohio State.
So we’ve basically got a bit of a Schrödinger’s cat situation on our hands, where each program will continue to recruit Gabriel Georges as if no decision has been made.
There’s optimism around Tennessee — for various reasons, including a quicker path to playing time on Rocky Top.
But Ohio State, of course, can’t be ruled out.
Still, it seems like Ohio State is the program that’s on its heels in this recruiting battle as Gabriel Georges’ commitment date draws closer.
Insider shares latest on David Gabriel Georges’ recruitment
VolQuest’s Brent Hubbs joined 104.5 The Zone’s Ramon and Will on Friday and shared his latest thoughts on Gabriel Georges.
“Our position on it has kind of been that I think Tennessee’s always been in this better than some national people thought,” said Hubbs. “I think some national people have come around to the idea that Tennessee’s a legit player and could legitimately get him in a couple of weeks. So we’ll see.
“I think Tennessee’s put their best foot forward. I think there’s better relationships at Tennessee than some of the national people initially realized and understood. And those relationships are with former high school teammates that he played with. I think he’s comfortable with the coaching staff. I think (Vols RBs coach) De’Rail Sims has done a good job. I think there’s other Tennessee influence, obviously, in and around that area down there (in Chattanooga) that knows him. And I think all of those things help Tennessee.”
“He likes Coach (Carlos) Locklyn, the running backs coach at Ohio State,” added Hubbs. “[He likes] the tradition at Ohio State. All of those things are a factor there. But I do think Tennessee’s done a really nice job. And I think Ohio State — I don’t want to say [Ohio State] is playing catch-up, but I think you’ve seen some moves that they’ve made that tells you they feel like maybe they’re in danger of losing him more than they thought they were going to be a month ago or two weeks ago, six weeks ago, that type of thing.“
Just because it feels like this thing is trending in Tennessee’s direction doesn’t mean they’re for sure going to win this battle. I think the Vols make more sense for Gabriel Georges because he’d be the top option from day one at Tennessee (which wouldn’t be the case at Ohio State because of the presence of Bo Jackson, who is coming off a huge true freshman season in 2025). But no one knows if Gabriel Georges sees it the same way, so we’ll all just have to wait until July 22 to see if the pick is Tennessee or Ohio State.
