Ohio State’s move to match Tennessee in pursuit of five-star RB David Gabriel Georges reportedly isn’t going to work
Ohio State is pulling out all the cards to try to land five-star RB David Gabriel Georges over Tennessee. However, one potential move has already blown up in their face.
The Ohio State Buckeyes are awaiting word on what’s going to happen with five-star RB David Gabriel Georges on his July 22 commitment date.
Ohio State has poured everything into landing Gabriel Georges, and he’ll choose between the Buckeyes and Tennessee at the top of his recruitment. Ole Miss sits there at a distant third in the race.
It’s been reported the Buckeyes have tried to make a move Tennessee already has for DGG, but it isn’t going to work out.
Ohio State doesn’t have the luxury that Tennessee does in the recruitment of David
Tennessee is now an Adidas school and the brand is expected to step up on the NIL front for Tennessee athletics. The three-stripe brand is set to help out with some of the financial package.
According to 97.1 The Fan’s Jeremy Birmingham, Ohio State was hoping for the same help from Nike, but it won’t be happening.
“Adidas has sweetened the pot in a way that I just don’t know how [Ohio State can] combat it,” Birmingham stated. “Ohio State reportedly, or I’ve been told, they asked Nike if they could get involved, and [Nike] said, ‘We don’t get involved with high school athletes.’”
Ohio State was never going to match Tennessee’s NIL offer for Gabriel Georges. The Buckeyes are offering Gabriel Georges more than they’ve ever paid a running back, including Quinshon Judkins and TreVeyon Henderson. Still, the money is expected to be behind Tennessee. Ohio State will have a top dollar they’re willing to spend and they’re not going to act out of desperation.
Buckeyes still offer David Gabriel Georges the best situation
Gabriel Georges is a talented player who’s going to get to the NFL wherever he goes barring a major surprise. But if he values development, the chance to compete for a national championship, and the strength of the program, the decision should be Ohio State without a doubt. Still, Tennessee might be the choice for Gabriel Georges because of the money or that’s where he’s more comfortable, which is fine too.
Getting or not getting Gabriel Georges will not make or break the Buckeyes. It would certainly help Ohio State’s running game going forward, but Ohio State can pivot if they don’t land the elite running back recruit.
We’re days away from learning which way Gabriel Georges is going to go. The top Ohio State target feels like a true coin flip at this point on where he could end up.
