Miami Hurricanes the odds on favorite to finally accomplish a major milestone that they’ve never achieved
The Canes are getting a lot of love to end an ugly drought.
The Miami Hurricanes have accomplished plenty over their last four-plus decades on the football field. Five national championships, two Heisman trophy winners, and nine Big East conference titles.
But one thing the Hurricanes have not done, incredibly, in their 22 years in the ACC is win a conference championship. It felt like the Hurricanes would potentially dominate the conference when they left the Big East after the 2003 season, but the polar opposite has come to pass. Miami has played in the conference’s marquee game just once time — in 2017, which ended in a 38-3 splattering at the hands of Clemson.
They’ve been close a number of other years, but they found a way to miss out each time. Could 2026 finally be the year they get back to Charlotte and finally win it? The odds are strongly in their favor.
Per DraftKings Sportsbook, Miami is a commanding favorite to win the ACC title at -136 as of Friday.

The second best odds lie with SMU at +700, followed by Louisville (+800) and Clemson (+1400). That’s quite the disparity from the Hurricanes to the rest of the group.
Last year, Miami finished in a five-way tie for second place with a slew of other teams, including former head coach Manny Diaz’s Duke Blue Devils. But Duke ended up getting the nod via the conference’s wild tiebreaker system and went on to claim their first ACC football crown with a 27-20 overtime victory over the Virginia Cavaliers.
2025 was an unforgettable season, as the Hurricanes knocked off Texas A&M, Ohio State, and Ole Miss to reach the national championship game. But adding that first elusive ACC championship trophy on the way back to the playoff in 2026 would be a tremendous accomplishment — and would give their critics and opposing fans one less grenade to lob at the Hurricanes program and their fanbase.
