The talk of the town for the Ohio State Buckeyes is their top recruiting target set to come off the board next week: five-star RB David Gabriel Georges

Ohio State has a top 10 class at this point with 18 commitments for the 2027 group. Adding Gabriel Georges into the mix would be a big addition for the Buckeyes with a player set to make an impact as a freshman surely.

The battle for Gabriel Georges is between Ohio State and Tennessee. There’s been plenty of noise around this recruitment lately, and the latest doesn’t sound great for the Buckeyes.

National insider’s latest take on David Gabriel Georges doesn’t sound good for Ohio State

On3’s Chris Low put out an insightful interview with Gabriel Georges to start the week then appeared on 104.5 The Zone where he gave his take on the recruitment right now.

“It is an Ohio State and Tennessee thing. I think Tennessee’s in good shape … I really do. Don’t want to speak for the kid. I spent a lot of time with him. He’s a sharp kid. He only started speaking English a little over two years ago, I mean, imagine going to live in Montreal and living in a French-speaking town. I couldn’t imagine going there and within two years picking up the (English) language the way he has.”

He’s a really sharp and intelligent kid who’s laser-focused I think this kid’s got a great future wherever he goes, whether it’s Ohio State or Tennessee. I do think, though, that Tennessee’s in really good shape with it.”

I agree strongly with the point that Gabriel Georges is going to be very good wherever he goes. Ohio State and Tennessee are two very different programs in two very different spots right now and the past couple of decades. Gabriel Georges is choosing between trying to be the guy to help Tennessee turn around and joining a national championship roster in Columbus where he can be a key focal point.

This recruitment feels like a 50/50 coin flip on which way it could go. Ohio State would be better off if they land Gabriel Georges, but it’s not the end of the world if they don’t get him. The Buckeyes will need to either hit the portal in the winter for a running back, or circle back to flip one in the current recruiting class.

Though the noise hasn’t sounded the best for the Buckeyes’ chances of landing Gabriel Georges lately, I don’t think anyone really knows who he’s going to choose. Ohio State’s in the fight and we’ll find out July 22.
