‘I think he’s pretty close’ – An actual decision could be made soon by David Gabriel Georges and one program is in ‘good shape’
2027 five-star running back David Gabriel Georges is set to announce his commitment on July 22 and he’ll be choosing between the Tennessee Vols and the Ohio State Buckeyes.
Despite what his uncle said earlier this month, 2027 five-star running back David Gabriel Georges hasn’t made a final decision yet.
Gabriel Georges, who is set to choose between the Tennessee Vols and the Ohio State Buckeyes on July 22, told On3’s Chris Low this week that he’s still working toward his decision.
“It’s complicated,” said Gabriel Georges of the looming decision. “It’s hard. You feel this way, like you know, and then it’s sort of 50-50. People will say the 22nd of July is far off, but honestly, for me, it’s pretty close. So, yes, you feel like you know, and then I will call my mom and dad, and they’re like, ‘We love both. It’s your decision.’ I’m like, ‘Oh my God, I need something (laughing) because I’m going to be playing there for the next three years and live there.’ So you just want to make sure you get it right.”
David Gabriel Georges is “close” to making a decision
Low, who said he spent more than an hour with Gabriel Georges for the interview with On3, appeared on 104.5 The Zone’s 3HL on Monday and said he thinks the five-star running back is “pretty close” to making a final decision.
Low also said he thinks Tennessee is in “good shape” in this recruiting battle.
“I think he’s pretty close — if he hasn’t already (made a decision),” said Low. “I think more than anything, he wants his moment. His family wants him to have his moment. The people at Baylor School [want him to have his moment]. He’s going to announce it at 5:30 on [July 22].
“He could go anywhere. His first offer was Oregon back when he was a freshman in Canada. Georgia wanted him, Alabama wanted him, Ole Miss [wants him]. It is an Ohio State and Tennessee thing. I think Tennessee’s in good shape — I really do. I don’t want to speak for the kid. I spent a lot of time with him. He’s a sharp kid. He only started speaking English a little over two years ago, I mean, imagine going to live in Montreal and living in a French-speaking town. I couldn’t imagine going there and within two years picking up the (English) language the way he has. He’s a really sharp and intelligent kid who’s laser focused. … I think this kid’s got a great future wherever he goes, whether it’s Ohio State or Tennessee. I do think, though, that Tennessee’s in really good shape with it.”
Low also noted that in addition to learning English, Gabriel Georges is also currently learning Spanish at Baylor School. So not only is Gabriel Georges elite on the field, but he’s elite off the field, too.
As for his decision, it certainly sounds like things are trending in a positive direction for Tennessee. But Ohio State is Ohio State. The Buckeyes can never be counted out in any recruiting battle, and it would be unwise to discount their chances of landing Gabriel Georges as July 22 approaches.
