Peyton Manning says what he really thinks about Patrick Mahomes always asking for flags from officials
Hall of Fame quarterback Peyton Manning weighed in on the narrative that Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes always asks for flags from officials.
Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes is undoubtedly a future Hall of Famer, but that doesn’t mean he doesn’t get criticized.
There are plenty of Mahomes haters out there and one of their biggest complaints about the three-time Super Bowl MVP is that he constantly begs for flags.
Hall of Fame quarterback Peyton Manning was asked this week at Fanatics Fest about Mahomes’ reputation for begging for flags.
Manning didn’t criticize Mahomes, instead pointing out that the Kansas City quarterback often doesn’t slide, so it’s not like he’s baiting defenders into the flag.
“The thing about Mahomes now, I mean, he’s not a big slider,” said Manning. “Patrick runs. Patrick gets his yards. And he still has legs. I don’t think there’s anybody (current QBs in the NFL) that just jumps out to me as much (that asks for flags).”
Manning added that quarterbacks asking for flags is what frustrates defenders the most (so maybe it’s a gamesmanship thing).
If Manning doesn’t have a problem with Mahomes, then fans shouldn’t either. Asking for flags, to some extent, is just part of the game — it’s tough to win games in the NFL and those calls can often make the difference.
