The Miami Dolphins have made several moves this offseason that have leaned into the familiarity of playing in South Florida.
Names like Tutu Atwell, a South Florida native, have been added to the roster. The Dolphins new head coach, Jeff Hafley, has significant ties to former Dolphins head coach Dave Wannstedt. The leadership group even hit the Florida Keys to connect with another former Dolphins head coach, Jimmie Johnson. And now, there’s yet another new South Floridian name on-site.
The Miami Dolphins are reportedly adding former Miami Hurricanes kicker Jose Borregales to scouting staff
Former University of Miami All-American kicker Jose Borregales is reportedly joining the Dolphins’ scouting staff this summer through the Nunn Wooten Scouting Fellowship, per CBS Sports’ Matt Zenitz.
Borregales won the Lou Groza Award in 2020 as the nation’s top placekicker while kicking for the Hurricanes. He subsequently went undrafted in the 2021 NFL Draft and has since kicked professionally with the Orlando Guardians and the Winnipeg Blue Bombers after failing to latch on with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in 2021.
Borregales played his high school football locally, too. He attended Booker T. Washington High School in Miami, then enrolled at Florida International and kicked for three seasons. Borregales then transferred to the University of Miami for his final season in 2020. His roots in the region run deep, making him a poetic summer addition to the building.
This is a quiet move. But it continues a pattern of the offseason while also offering Borregales a chance to continue his career in football. His successes with the Hurricanes never found a home in the pros. Now, he’ll set about learning how to find the next generation of players for the league instead.
