Bucs announce 1976 throwback uniform game for 2026 season, and it’s against the perfect opponent
Tampa Bay will don their popular white throwbacks again this year.
The Tampa Bay Buccaneers have now been a franchise for half a century, having played their fiftieth season last year. In celebration, the Bucs wore a modern day look on their beloved (by many, at least) 1976 throwback uniforms last year in a Week 5 matchup at the eventual Super Bowl champion Seattle Seahawks.
It turned out to be likely the high point of the entire season, as the Bucs went on to win 38-35 in overtime on a Chase McGrath field goal. Look good, feel good; feel good, play good, as they say.
The matchup with the Seahawks was a great choice, as Seattle wore their snappy throwbacks to match. And the 2026 matchup could be just as much of an aesthetically-pleasing matchup for fans of the throwback look.
The Bucs announced on Wednesday that, back by popular demand, the 1976 jerseys will return this season. The team will wear them for their Dec. 6 home matchup with the Los Angeles Chargers.

Anyone who has watched the NFL for any decent amount of time knows the Chargers have some of the sharpest uniforms in the NFL, and they like to lean into the retro look even as part of their current uniform.
LA recently paid homage to their 1990s-early 2000s era dark blue look, which they wore last season in dominating wins over the Minnesota Vikings and Las Vegas Raiders. It remains to be seen if the Chargers would wear any type of “retro” uniform beyond their normal uniform, but they certainly have some options they could turn to.
In any event, a very popular look will return to Tampa Bay in 2026. And if the Bucs can play like they did in them last year again this season, Tampa Bay fans very well could end up leaving Raymond James Stadium happy.
