The Miami Dolphins are in the process of getting their sea legs for the season ahead. And while Miami is plugging away at practices without any worry about any off-field distractions, thanks in part to extensions for names like De’Von Achane. The same can’t be said elsewhere around the NFL.
Yet the Atlanta Falcons have put their own final off-field issue to bed — they’ve inked star running back Bijan Robinson to a brand new contract extension worth up to $25 million dollars per season. Given that Miami also had a running back extension pushed through this offseason, it’s worth exploring the tale of the tape with these two deals. It will make one thing abundantly clear about the De’Von Achane contract.

Robinson, like Achane, was set to play on the fourth year of his rookie contract in 2026,. But he also has the fifth-year option as a part of his contractual commitments. That makes his circumstances a bit different than Achane, as Robinson was a top-10 draft choice while Achane slid to the third round before landing in Miami.
The extra year of player control does make it easier for the Falcons to kick around the new (and old) money alike. But even with the extra year, the gap between these two and their respective contracts is…significant.

Achane got a four-year extension, Robinson gets a three-year extension plus the fifth-year option. And one player got essentially double the guarantees. The max value of Robinson’s deal, $25 million per, is nearly 50% higher than Achane’s ($17 million per year) when you include incentives.
With this elevated ceiling at all the major measures of cash, one this is abundantly clear. If the Miami Dolphins had waited on a De’Von Achane contract extension, they’d be paying for it. Certainly more than they’re paying for his services long-term now.
