The quarterback competition with the Minnesota Vikings has completely split the fanbase in half. Kyler Murray has a lot of fans while many still believe in J.J. McCarthy to be the starter both this season and long-term.

You can make good arguments for both players to be the starting quarterback, with different rationales behind them. Murray would be the win-now move with hopes he can be re-signed after the season, while McCarthy is only 23 years old and would get it figured out as a former top-10 overall pick.

Kyler Murray myth has been dispelled

Simply put, both sides of the fanbase have been looking for any way to devalue the other side, whether it be running with a rumor, reading body language, or spinning the happenings of practice for their own benefit.

One of those myths about Murray is that his teammates don’t like him. The Athletic’s Jeff Howe cleared that up simply by saying his teammates like him.

“Now for the first time, there might be a chicken-or-egg resolution. Had this been more of a Murray issue or a Cardinals problem?

For instance, by all accounts, Murray has been well received by his new Vikings teammates. O’Connell’s culture and the locker room’s leadership have been well established, and four years of NFLPA report cards have told the story of two organizations with very different standings around the league. The Vikings have finished first or second in the grading in all four of O’Connell’s seasons, while the Cardinals’ average ranking has been 30.3, including three years in the bottom two.”

We know that the locker room likes McCarthy, as multiple teammates have spoken highly of him. Being that Murray has been well received by his new teammates, the myth can be, at the very least, put aside.

Murray is still the runaway favorite to win the starting quarterback job, and he’s positioned well moving forward.
