Latest validation justifies Eagles’ decision to give Jalen Carter a massive contract extension

Jalen Carter keeps rising. The Philadelphia Eagles defensive tackle jumped from No. 43 to No. 29 on the NFL’s Top 100 Players list, a significant leap for a guy who just locked in a big contract extension and has been tearing it up at training camp. Carter’s climb is well deserved, and he’s far from the only Eagle earning recognition on this year’s list.
Eagles stacking up in the top 60
Philadelphia has six players ranked in the top 60 of the NFL Top 100, and that’s a serious number. Saquon Barkley came in at No. 34, Cooper DeJean at No. 38, Zack Baun at No. 45, Quinyon Mitchell at No. 47, and Jalen Hurts at No. 56. You didn’t hear a lot of Eagles names when the list was rolling through the 100s, the 90s, the 80s, the 70s. But once we got into the top 50 and 60, the Birds started showing up everywhere.
I think Mitchell should probably be a little higher than 47, honestly. The guy was one of the best young cornerbacks in the NFL last season, and his ceiling is through the roof. But I get it, the list is what it is, and the fact that he’s on it at all as a young player says a lot.
Carter’s jump is the headline, though. Going from 43 to 29 shows you what kind of trajectory he’s on. He’s establishing himself as one of the most dominant interior defenders in the league, and the Eagles clearly believe that with the extension they gave him. A great training camp only adds to the momentum.
Now, here’s the thing. All of this is nice. The recognition, the rankings, the hype. But none of it matters if these guys don’t go out and prove it on the field this season. Every single one of them needs to live up to the billing. We know what this roster is capable of on paper, and the Top 100 is a cool honor, but the only list that matters is the one that ends with a Lombardi Trophy.
