The buzz on Miami Dolphins rookie wide receiver Caleb Douglas has been sensational. And, sure enough, in his preseason debut with the team, he’s showed exactly why he’s become such a hot name for the Dolphins’ young wide receiver corp.

Douglas, just a few plays after losing track of his footing on the sideline for what would have been an explosive play in the passing game from Malik Willis, got a target on 3rd & 5 that saw him flash a surreal catch radius and some excellent ball skills.

The conversation around Douglas is all about potential right now. But wow, are you ever seeing it with plays like these. The conversation around the Dolphins’ wide receiver room will carry on with questions in the weeks ahead. But the fastest ticket to Miami flipping the script? It might be Douglas making plays like this. Is it fair to expect this every single week? Of course not.

It’s also worth pointing out that Douglas and the rest of the Miami Dolphins’ starting offense went against the Commanders’ backup unit for their opening drive. But I don’t care whether you make a catch like this against a first, second, or third string defender. A one-handed catch is a one-handed catch.

There’s a non-zero chance that this will be the best catch we see from the MIami Dolphins this preseason. I won’t be mad about it if that’s the case. But if we see a better one? It might be a safe bet that Douglas makes it.
