Despite signing three members of their 2023 NFL Draft class to new deals this offseason, the cream of the crop from that marquee group of Pittsburgh Steelers remains without a new deal. That man, of course, is Joey Porter Jr. Porter views himself among the elite at the position and, based on our understanding, would like to tip the scales close to the $30 million average per year club, one the Steelers are hesitant to enter.

That caused NFL insider Jordan Schultz to raise some alarm bells when he posted towards the end of the week that other teams wonder if the Steelers would be willing to trade Porter if a deal doesn’t get done. While we have received no indication that the Steelers intend on doing so, it never hurts to see what’s out there, or at least mock what’s out there. So today, three of my colleagues at A to Z Sports, Ryan Roberts, Wendell Ferreira, and Tyler Forness send me offers, and I played Omar Khan and chose the best one. Let’s dive in.

Saints go in for a true CB No.1

Offer: The New Orleans Saints offer a 2027 2nd- and 5th-round selection to the Pittsburgh Steelers for cornerback Joey Porter Jr.

“With Kool-Aid McKinstry and Quincy Riley being projected as the starters for the Saints, there is a lack of impact depth, on top of not having a true No. 1 cornerback on this team. Considering that the Saints will have a contract decision to make on the horizon, it’s a gamble but there is still a ceiling to tap into with Porter. They’re a roster that is quickly running out of major needs.” – Roberts

Vikings aim to bolster their secondary

Offer: Vikings send 2027 4th and 2028 2nd in exchange for Joey Porter Jr.

“The Vikings haven’t had a great cornerback in the room since Xavier Rhodes earning All-Pro honors in 2017. This defense doesn’t need elite cornerback talent, but having it could be a massive difference maker. Poeter’s size, length, and athleticism could elevate the Vikings’ defense to a level they haven’t yet seen. Porter likely goes for a first-round pick plus, but with the quarterback situation and needing 2027 draft capital, the best they can do is a 2nd and 4th.” – Forness

Packers swap corners, send Steelers draft capital

Offer: Packers get: Joey Porter Jr. Steelers get: Keisean Nixon, 2027 2nd-round pick

“For the Packers, it would be hard to part ways with a second-rounder because they don’t have their first-rounder either since the Micah Parsons trade a year ago. But Porter is the type of player who would justify this type of investment. He’s set to make $3.924 million in 2026, and the Packers have the cap flexibility to give him a contract extension, even if it’s a little bit higher than the three-year, $70.3 million deal projected by Spotrac.”

“As a compensation, the Packers could also send the Steelers Keisean Nixon, who’s falling out of favor among Packers fans but is a viable cornerback and a former All-Pro returner. That helps the Steelers lessen the blow of losing a top cornerback, but also alleviates the Packers’ cap situation because Nixon will make $5 million this year. Green Bay has both Nixon and Carrington Valentine entering the final year of their deals. So instead of spending on them, the Packers could use the financial resources to take advantage of a situation to acquire a top-end talent to join rookie Brandon Cisse as part of a long-term plan.” – Ferreira

The winning offer

While the Packers’ offer of both Nixon and the 2027 2nd is enticing, the Steelers have to feel good about rookie Daylen Everette and Asantae Samuel Jr. after the camps they just had, so I rather take on more capital.

That would leave the Saints’ offer as the winning one, as Pittsburgh receives a second and a fifth in what is believed to be a loaded class. However, barring a Godfather offer, or one akin to what the Jets received for Sauce Gardner (two 1st-rounders), I have a hard time believing the Steelers would move Porter at all, but you never truly know in the NFL.
