7 winners and 3 losers from Steelers’ victory against Saints: T.J. Watt and the defense carry Pittsburgh to success in Paris
The Pittsburgh Steelers left Paris with a win over the New Orleans Saints behind one of their best defensive showings of the year. Here is who stood out, and who has some cleaning up to do.
The Pittsburgh Steelers got the job done in Paris. The Steelers beat the New Orleans Saints 16-10 behind a defensive masterclass, especially against the run, while Aaron Rodgers and the offense did just enough to close it out.
That means it’s time for this week’s Steelers winners and losers. Pittsburgh had plenty of players worth praising, and only three who ended up on the wrong side of the ledger.
Steelers winners on offense against the Saints
RB Jaylen Warren
Warren once again led the Steelers in yards from scrimmage, topping 100 yards and doing damage as both a runner and a receiver. He is Pittsburgh’s best weapon. No real news there, but it’s worth repeating every week he keeps doing it.
Jaylen Warren stats vs. Saints
- 18 carries
- 101 rushing yards
- 3 receptions
- 36 receiving yards
WR DK Metcalf
The downfield passing attack was missing in action in the first half. Metcalf changed that with a 51-yard catch that got the offense going and finally brought in the vertical element the Steelers acquired him for. It wasn’t a monster stat line, but it was the play Pittsburgh needed.
QB Aaron Rodgers
Rodgers threw a rope to Metcalf on that 51-yard completion out of structure, and he mixed in multiple touch passes. Then came the third down at the end that essentially won the game, when he got out of the pocket and scrambled to move the chains. Somehow, Rodgers has turned back the clock in terms of his athleticism, and he has looked phenomenal. Aaron Rodgers is a winner.
Steelers winners on defense against the Saints
EDGE TJ Watt
Watt sits atop the list, as always. He picked up the 120th sack of his career, and it should have been a strip sack. I’m not exactly sure how that got overturned. Watt was in the backfield on most reps, but the Saints were getting the ball out in 2.5 seconds or less, so you couldn’t always feel his impact. That doesn’t minimize it. He had a great game.
LB Payton Wilson
Wilson made an incredible interception. He was essentially manned up on Chris Olave in the low red zone and picked the pocket of Tyler Shough on a drive where New Orleans was about to score before halftime. That’s a game-changing play from the second-year linebacker.
LB Patrick Queen
How about Wilson’s inside linebacker buddy? Queen had a phenomenal pass breakup early, and he was all over the field. He also blitzed up the A-gap for a sack on third down. Patrick Queen, have a day.
The run defense
Pittsburgh allowed only 18 rushing yards. That is phenomenal rush defense. Yes, Shough was able to play pitch and catch at times, but Patrick Graham’s defense basically dared him to. The Steelers knew they could stop the run, and they did.
Steelers losers against the Saints
DB Jalen Ramsey
Ramsey has had a great 2026 season, but this wasn’t his best game. He gave up a red zone touchdown, and he was flat-footed multiple times, caught trailing defenders. He just doesn’t have the same speed and athleticism he once did. That’s why moving him into the box as a safety, star, or nickel has worked so well for the Steelers. When the Saints put him on an island and isolated him, it didn’t go well.
LG Mason McCormick
Germie Bernard had a great play on a screen pass, and McCormick decided to hop on the pile. I don’t know what he was thinking. The penalty negated the play and stalled the drive. He has to be better there, because Pittsburgh can’t afford mind-numbing penalties like that one.
LT Troy Fautanu
It wasn’t a pretty day for Fautanu. He got beat badly late in the game and gave up a sack on third down. To be fair to Fautanu, he has taken a lot of good steps in his maturation since moving back to left tackle. This just wasn’t one of those days, and I think he’ll be fine.
Those are your winners and losers from a 16-10 win in Paris. The defense carried the load, Rodgers made the plays when it counted, and the Steelers head home with a victory, even if a few players will want the tape back.
